Xamin responds to latest ransomware risk WannaCry

Tue, May 16th, 2017 11:52 AM

Xamin is aware of the latest ransomware, wannacry.  This particular ransomware takes advantage of an
exploit discovered in leaked CIA documentation early this year.  Microsoft released patches in March for all supported operating systems to close the vulnerability.Xamin customers who we manage patches for and are using supported operating systems are safe from the worm-like behavior of this ransomware attack.

The majority of infections were due to poor email practice coupled with poor life cycle management and poor patch management systems

Microsoft did release out-of-band patches for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP.  We will be working with our customers who still have those operating systems in their environment to get them patched up.
